Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the United States.One could say the Southwest Management District is the heartbeat of that diversity.

As an official Host City for the FIFA World Cup 2026,Houston is ready to showcase its iconic venues,dynamic communities and deep love for the game.And,as a hub of culture,commerce and community,the Southwest District is kicking off the World Cup celebrations this Saturday with “First Kick,” a free,family-friendly soccer and wellness event.

The festivities take place on Saturday,June 6,at the Alief Neighborhood Center and Park(11903 Bellaire Blvd,Houston,TX 77072).Admission is FREE.Park in the convenient garage or four surface lots near the center.

PleaseRSVPto assist event planners—and don’t forget sunscreen and a water bottle as the events are outdoors.

The event is FREE and organized in partnership with Alief ISD,the International Management District,the Westchase District,the City of Houston and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department(HPARD).Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher,Council Member Twila Carter and Council Member Tiffany Thomas are also lending their support.

The day begins at 9 a.m.with a community walk and a full-body workout,including calisthenics,yoga and HIIT.After you’ve worked up a sweat,you can focus on recovery with stretching,cold plunge or cupping.

Mayor John Whitmire and other leaders will then participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony,followed by a full morning of fun for all ages that showcases Southwest Houston’s diverse community spirit.

Guests can join soccer sessions,meet players from the Houston Dynamo,take part in mini-tournaments,enjoy live entertainment and explore food and merchandise vendors.(Don’t forget your cash or card to support our local vendors who are joining us!)

Parents/spectators may want to bring chairs and/or blankets to watch our community’s soccer players in action.Sign up on-site to play and,if you are planning to play,wear your athletic clothes and shoes!

Sphere’s soccer programming will feature:

• a mini tournament for ages 6 and up at 10 a.m.(parent required)
• open play for ages 18 and up at 11 a.m.
• a tournament organized by the Southwest Management District at noon.

The event concludes at 1 p.m.

The Southwest District is home to an array of international cuisines,unique shopping destinations and rich cultural experiences that draw visitors from across the region.“First Kick” is a chance to experience that vibrancy while getting active and gearing up for the global excitement of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
