Southwest Management District to Host Free Shredding and Trespass Affidavit Event on Nov. 13
Community members can securely dispose of sensitive documents, property and business owners can file or renew trespass affidavits, and meet Houston Police Department officers and their four-legged robot dog.
HOUSTON, Texas (October 21, 2026) — The Southwest Management District’s Chinatown Public Safety Subcommittee will host its annual Shredding & Trespass Affidavit event on Friday, November 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sterling Center, 9750 Bellaire Blvd. The free event will provide community members with an opportunity to protect their property, safely dispose of sensitive documents, and learn more about local public safety resources.
Houston Police Department (HPD) representatives will be available to help property owners complete trespass affidavits, which authorize officers to take action against trespassers on a property when the owner or manager is not present. These affidavits can help commercial property owners address after-hours trespassing and reduce the risk of vandalism and burglary.
“Trespass affidavits are particularly useful for commercial property owners in the event that we find someone at the location trespassing after hours,” said HPD Capt. Timothy Trometer. “Often, it can be difficult getting ahold of the property owner during the overnight hours, and by having the trespass affidavit on file, we have the necessary information to pursue removing that person and filing charges.”
HPD will provide the necessary paperwork and have a notary available on-site. Property owners who already have a trespass affidavit should remember that it must be renewed annually. Both commercial property owners and homeowners may participate.
The event will also feature a mobile shredding truck, allowing attendees to securely destroy documents containing personal or financial information, including old bank statements and tax records. Shredding is limited to personal documents, with a maximum of five standard-size file boxes per vehicle. Electronics and appliances will not be accepted.
Representatives from the Harris County District Attorney’s Office will also be on-site to provide information and connect attendees with available resources.
Attendees are also invited to meet Spot, HPD’s four-legged robot dog, and officers from HPD’s Mounted Patrol, who will be on-site with their horses.
The annual event is part of the Southwest Management District’s ongoing commitment to public safety and community well-being. In addition to hosting educational and outreach events, the District supports public safety initiatives such as HPD off-duty patrols, security patrols along business corridors, the Burglary of Motor Vehicle Report Card Program, the Special Watch Program, and collaboration with the Harris County Attorney’s Office to address nuisance properties.
Community members are encouraged to take advantage of this free opportunity to safeguard their property, protect their personal information, and connect with local law enforcement.
