Nuisance Abatement
The Southwest Management District partners with the Harris County Attorney’s Office to address nuisance properties that negatively impact the community. These efforts focus on locations involved in illegal activity or those that consistently disrupt public safety and quality of life. Through legal action and ongoing collaboration, the District works to improve neighborhood conditions, support law enforcement, and ensure a safer environment for residents and businesses.

HPD Overtime
To enhance public safety, the Southwest Management District funds an overtime program in partnership with the Houston Police Department. This program allows for increased police presence throughout the District, focusing on crime deterrence, traffic enforcement, and rapid response to community concerns. By investing in additional patrol hours, the District supports a safer environment for residents, visitors, and local businesses.

Surveillance Cameras
The Southwest Management District has strategically installed surveillance cameras, including Flock license plate reader (LPR) cameras, to support crime prevention and public safety efforts. These cameras serve as valuable tools for law enforcement, helping to monitor activity, identify suspect vehicles, and respond more effectively to incidents. By investing in this technology, the District enhances security for businesses and residents while assisting HPD and other agencies in solving and deterring crime.

Special Watch Program
The Special Watch Program allows deputies to collect and disseminate local specific offenses to all deputies for increased focused patrols in these areas. BMV Report Card Program
The Southwest Management District’s BMV (Burglary of Motor Vehicle) Report Card Program is a proactive public safety initiative designed to help prevent vehicle break-ins. Trained property managers and security staff conduct visual inspections of parked cars and leave report cards indicating whether the vehicle “passes” or “fails” based on visible valuables. This program empowers the community to take simple steps that reduce crime and enhance public awareness.

Environmental & Urban Design

Litter Abatement
Through our litter abatement program, we conduct regular street and sidewalk cleanups, remove illegal dumping, and respond to litter concerns reported by the community. By investing in cleanliness, we enhance quality of life, protect property values, and promote a more attractive district for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Mowing and Landscaping
The Southwest Management District provides supplemental mowing and landscaping services to support and enhance city efforts. We maintain adopted esplanades, public trails, and green spaces as part of our commitment to creating a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful district. These efforts are carried out in collaboration with partners such as the local TIRZ, Commissioner Leslie Briones, and other public agencies, ensuring long-term care and improvement of shared community spaces.

Grafitti Abatement
The District is very active in removing the visual blight caused by graffiti in the District. Graffiti abated by the District is color matched and chronicled for HPD investigations. Street light surveys are performed bi-monthly.

Street Light Surveys
Street light outages within the Southwest Management District are reported directly to CenterPoint Energy for repair. Ensuring well-lit streets is a priority for public safety and quality of life. If you notice a non-functioning street light, you can report it directly through CenterPoint Energy’s online portal or contact the District for assistance.

Community Development Funds
Subject to availability of funds and District priorities, the Southwest Management District offers limited financial support to community groups and nonprofit organizations for projects that improve the area.The District’s goal is to use existing resources to improve the well-being, safety, and overall quality of life in the community. By providing such assistance, the District aspires to increase community participation and foster a renewed sense of community identity and vision.
