This Friday,the Southwest Management District will welcome a new public landmark to Bellaire Boulevard at the Painted Bridges Houston Mural Unveiling Ceremony.

Presented by GONZO247 and EpNex and supported by the Ministry of Education’s Youth Billion Overseas Dream Fund,the initiative brought together six Taiwanese artists to celebrate creativity,connection and belonging,resulting in a permanent public mural.

The mural’s theme,“There is always a seat for you,” focuses on shared experiences.At its center is an image of a shared meal with an open seat,representing the welcoming spirit that is strong in Southwest Houston,where people from many backgrounds shape the District’s character.

The project also honors photographer Corky Lee,whose work brought more attention to Asian American history and representation.This tribute recognizes the past while looking ahead to a future based on connection.

For 21 days,the EpNex Meridian Fellows explored Houston’s neighborhoods,arts scene and diverse cultures,creating a mural inspired by the stories,people and places they discovered.

“Each of these artists arrived with a completely different practice,and they’ve spent three weeks learning this city,meeting local artists and getting to know the community before putting anything on the wall,” said Melody Su,the founder of EpNex,which facilitates international youth leadership and cultural exchange programs.

“Through this mural,they’re communicating that people from different communities are welcome here and stronger together,” Su said.“We’re very grateful to the Ministry of Education,Youth Development Administration for launching this initiative and giving us the opportunity to bring six incredibly talented artists to Houston for this program.”

The Houston mural is also supported by the Southwest Management District and Greatland Management,with event,outreach and logistical support from OCA-Greater Houston.

For the neighborhood,this unveiling reflects ongoing efforts to make Bellaire Boulevard a lively public space.Next to Trung Nguyen E-Coffee at 9750 Bellaire Blvd.,the mural will become a visual landmark for residents,visitors and businesses.

Murals like this do more than make a street look better;they help shape identity and encourage community pride.

The unveiling event will include artist talks,a lion dance,community presentations,refreshments and a chance to see the mural up close.

“We hope Houston comes out on August 7 to see what they’ve made,” said Su.

For the Southwest District,the event is a celebration of the teamwork that helps our community continue to grow stronger,more welcoming and more vibrant.
