Friends,

Helping Houstonians gain employment is important to the economic health of our city. One of the initiatives I am most proud of during my first term is the launch of DistrictJJobs.com. In partnership with Houston METRO, at many bus shelters in District J, signs in English and Spanish display a QR code that riders can scan with their smart phone that will direct them to the DistrictJJob.com website.

On this site, hundreds of job openings are displayed so Houstonians can easily access employment opportunities. Jobs are categorized by professions such as: Admin, Arts & Entertainment, Education, Government, Hospitality, Internships, Medical, Professional Services, Restaurants, Skilled Labor, Technology, and jobs with METRO.

In addition to links to employment opportunities, the website has a “Resources” section with videos and articles containing tips to assist anyone searching for a job. Resume writing, interviewing, negotiating salary and other topics are available.

Due to the pandemic and now after, many people lost jobs or had to settle for underemployment, so this is an innovative and creative way to use technology for job seekers. Moreover, as my office continues to make public safety a top priority, we want to give people opportunities to get employed as an attractive alternative to criminal behavior.

I want to thank METRO CEO, Tom Lambert, and their entire team for their continued leadership and support. I also want to thank the director of the city’s Information and Technology Department, Lisa Kent, and her entire team (Bob Nowak and Mai Fung) for their extraordinary work in helping build and maintain the site.

I encourage everyone to visit DistrictJJobs.com and pass the word to anyone looking for opportunity at any level.

Together we will!
