Just one day remains for families to apply for the $40 million Harris County COVID-19 Emergency Direct Assistance Fund, which is providing one-time payments of $1200 to up to 33,333 households via federal CARES funding. The deadline to apply is Friday, Nov. 6, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.
Catholic Charities, a local leader in disaster responsiveness, is administering the fund on behalf of Harris County. The funding is not restricted to rent and can be used to cover housing, food, utilities, healthcare, childcare, transportation, and other necessary expenses. The program is not on a first-come/first-served basis. To be fair and impartial, qualifying applications will be randomly selected after enrollment has closed and selected applicants will be notified in late November. Applicants must live in Harris County, must prove pandemic-related hardship (e.g., unpaid bills), and must not exceed the financial threshold.
Specifics are at www.CatholicCharitiesHelp.org. You can also access Frequently Asked Questions here. All qualifying Harris County residents are welcome to apply, no matter whether they live inside or outside the City of Houston. For more information, contact the call center Monday–Saturday, 9am–8pm, at 832-990-1318.
