The Houston Harris County Winter Storm Relief Fund is now accepting applications for home repair assistance for residents whose homes were damaged during the winter storm. To get started, click here.
The Houston-Harris County Emergency Rental Assistance Program provides past-due rent payments from April 2020 onward, for months in which no other rental assistance has been received (not to exceed 12 months total), for households that were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Households may also be eligible for up to two months of future rental support as well as utility assistance for past-due electricity, gas, or water bills. Assistance will NOT be first-come, first-served.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has extended the federal eviction moratorium through March 31st. In order to be covered by this moratorium, you must sign and submit a declaration to your landlord. The updated moratorium and declaration are available here in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Arabic, Urdu, and French.

You are invited to participate in a survey to collect information about COVID-19 vaccine eligibility. This online survey should take about 2-10 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and responses will be kept confidential to the degree permitted by the technology being used.
If you qualify for the COVID-19 vaccine under Phase 1A, 1B, or 1C, please click on the image to fill out the survey and provide the District F office with your information so that we can keep you updated on vaccine availability. This data will be shared with the Houston Health Department (HHD). Bedbound residents and seniors aged 90+ are currently being prioritized.
For Women’s History Month, we are dedicating this portion of our newsletter to outstanding women who have had a tremendous impact on the national, state, and/or local level, and who are continuing to inspire others.
Gloria Steinem was an enormous figure in politics, frequently meeting and collaborating with changemakers such as Coretta Scott King, pictured here in 1978.
From her humble Ohio childhood, Gloria Steinem grew up to become an acclaimed journalist, trailblazing feminist, and one of the most visible, passionate leaders and spokeswomen of the women’s rights movement in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Steinem’s life has been dedicated to the cause of women’s rights, as she led marches and toured the country as an in-demand speaker. In 1972, Steinem and feminists such as Congresswoman Bella Abzug, Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, and feminist Betty Friedan formed the National Women’s Political Caucus. It continues to support gender equality and to ensure the election of more pro-equality women to public office. Other organizations Steinem has co-founded in her vast career include the Women’s Action Alliance (1971), which promotes non-sexist, multi-racial children’s education; the Women’s Media Center (2004) to promote positive images of women in media; Voters for Choice (1977), a pro-choice political action committee; and the Ms. Foundation for Women. In the 1990s, she helped establish Take Our Daughters to Work Day, the first national effort to empower young girls to learn about career opportunities.
An award-winning and prolific writer, Steinem has authored several books, including a biography on Marilyn Monroe, and the best-selling My Life on the Road. Her work has also been published and reprinted in numerous anthologies and textbooks. In 2013, President Barack Obama presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor. In her honor, in 2017, Rutgers University created The Gloria Steinem Endowed Chair in Media, Culture, and Feminist Studies.

Give your input on how over $40 million in federal grants should be prioritized and hear about what the Housing and Community Development Department (HCDD) is doing to help families impacted by COVID-19. You can participate virtually on Tues, March 23 at 3pm or Thurs, March 25 at 6pm.
Houston LISC is offering small grants to support community-led projects, activities, and campaigns. The goal of these grants is to seed community building and improve quality of life at the grassroots level. Grants are for $500-$5000. Ideal applications are for projects that develop civic engagement, community relationship building, and support existing neighborhood plans. Anyone interested in applying for a grant is encouraged to bring project ideas to a grant workshop. The LISC Sports & Recreation team is excited to announce a new round of funding for the NFL Foundation Grassroots Program. The program offers matching grants up to $250,000 to build, refurbish or add amenities to multi-purpose playing fields that feature youth football programming.
