The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) operates the electric grid and manages the deregulated market for 75 percent of the state.  They had directed energy providers, such as CenterPoint, to restore power to 600K households yesterday, and hope to reduce more outages over the course of today.

Houston’s water & wastewater systems are operating at emergency pressure levels and experiencing system-wide low water pressure. If you have water, please conserve it! Conserving water will allow us to save water for firefighting operations & other life-safety items. Also, please use it only for health & safety reasons. Please visit http://houstonemergency.org for more information.

Additionally, as of this morning, a boil water notice is in effect until further notice. Please boil your water if you need to use it for drinking. For more information, click here.

Please do NOT drip faucets, this will cause lower water pressure. Houston’s water system is different than other systems in that we don’t use water towers to provide pressure to the system. We use ground storage tanks and pumps. Some of this equipment is damaged by the weather.

Please stay off the roadways. Icy road conditions will make travel extremely dangerous and difficult.
