On June 12, 2020, members of the Asian American Youth Giving Circle held a press conference at the Chinese Community Center to distribute reusable, cloth facial masks to members of the senior citizen/nursing home community. Since 2014, AAYGC has fundraised over $70,000 to provide grants that are submitted from area youth. Members have also volunteered over 2,500 hours performing various charitable work. In May, AAYGC donated $10,000 worth of KN95 masks to the frontline workers at a press conference held by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner at City Hall. Nearly 1,000 reusable masks were donated on June 12th to the senior community, which has become one of the most vulnerable groups during COVID-19.
