We’re thrilled to introduce Ronald Rivas on board as the Southwest Management District’s very first intern. Ronald’s journey from El Salvador to becoming a dedicated student and community advocate in Houston is nothing short of inspiring. As he embarks on this new role, let’s delve into his background and what makes his presence a special one.

Ronald Rivas Reyes was born in El Salvador and immigrated to the United States at the age of 11. Arriving with no knowledge of English, Ronald faced numerous challenges. However, his resilience shined through as he adapted to life in Houston, attending Sharpson High School and eventually pursuing a degree in Business Management at Houston Christian University.

Growing up in the Southwest District, Ronald developed a deep love for his community. His personal experiences and observations fueled his passion for making a positive impact, particularly in changing how people view his neighborhood. “I’ve seen so many things in this community,” Ronald reflects. “I want to be part of the positive change. Meeting the people at Southwest Management District made me realize the incredible dedication and care that goes into supporting and uplifting this community.”

Discovering the Southwest Management District Internship Program

Ronald first learned about the Southwest Management District during a college career fair, where he was captivated by the presentation given by Annie Trinh, Director of Services. “Annie was the sweetest person I had met,” Ronald recalls. Her presentation about the district’s initiatives and future plans resonated deeply with him, leading him to approach her after the event.

Impressed by Ronald’s proactive approach and enthusiasm, Annie Trinh and David Peters, Board Member of the Southwest Management District, arranged an interview. Ronald’s strong social skills, passion for community service, and desire to learn more about the impacts were evident, earning him the role of the Southwest Management District inaugural intern.

As the Southwest Management District’s first intern, Ronald is stepping into a role that promises diverse responsibilities and learning opportunities. His tasks include assisting with article scheduling, reaching out to interviewees, and attending committee and board meetings. These responsibilities will allow him to build valuable connections and gain insights into the workings of the district.

Ronald is particularly excited about the chance to engage with the community and contribute to the district’s outreach efforts. “I’m looking forward to helping educate my peers and the younger generation about the positive impact the Southwest Management District has on our community,” he says. “It’s a chance to give back and help people understand the great things happening here.”

The Southwest Culture of Support and Growth

The Southwest Management District’s commitment to providing a supportive environment is one of the reasons Ronald was drawn to the internship. The district’s welcoming atmosphere, flexibility for students, and dedication to community development align perfectly with his values. “The Southwest Management District has been incredibly supportive,” Ronald notes. “They genuinely care about helping students balance their education with work experience and are committed to making a difference in the community.”

The district’s emphasis on community impact and economic development is reflected in its internship program, which aims to provide students with practical experience while supporting their academic growth. “It’s not just about the work,” Ronald explains. “It’s about being part of something that’s making a real difference.”
