The Southwest Management District proudly supported this year’s Houston Police Department (HPD) Back to School Supply Drive, held at the HPD storefront in Gulfton. Despite the rainy weather, the event was a huge success, with more than 900 backpacks distributed to students from elementary through high school.
Community members began lining up as early as 6:30 AM, although the event officially started at 9 AM. This impressive turnout, despite the rain, highlighted the community’s commitment to education and ensuring their children were prepared for the upcoming school year.
Commander Rubin of the HPD also shared his thoughts: “I am always overjoyed to see the support of our community businesses and the outpouring of the community to attend each event we host for South Gessner via our Gulfton Storefront. Despite the rain, we were able to still have a wonderful event where we were able to give out hundreds of backpacks to deserving families. It’s days like today that remind you of the reason you took the oath to serve and positively engage the community. Today was heartwarming.”
The participation of various sponsors and vendors was crucial to the event’s success. Their dedication and support ensured that every child left with essential school supplies. Along with the Southwest Management District, other sponsors included AT&T, the Houston Astros, Raising Cane’s, the Houston Dynamo, the District Attorney’s Office, the Brays Oaks Management District, Aguilera Construction, Construction Concepts, Walmart, and the Gulfton Citizens Advisory Council.
Tammy Rodriguez, an owner’s agent and Board Chair of the Gulfton Management District, expressed her gratitude: “We are incredibly thankful to all our sponsors and partners who made this event possible. Their support means the world to our community and the children we serve.”
The event’s success was measured not only by the number of backpacks distributed but also by the sense of community it fostered. Families and local leaders came together with the shared goal of supporting education and helping children succeed. The strong turnout, despite the adverse weather, showcased the resilience and commitment of the Gulfton community.
The Southwest Management District finds supporting the HPD in their efforts to bridge the gap between the community and police an essential part of driving value to the overall city of Houston. Their contribution played a vital role in making this event possible. This collaboration between businesses, local leaders, and the community is a powerful example of what can be achieved when everyone works together for a common cause.
As the new school year approaches, the Southwest Management District remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that benefit the community. This year’s Back to School Supply Drive set a high standard, demonstrating the positive impact of collective effort and community spirit. The district looks forward to building on this success in future events, continuing to enhance the quality of life for all residents and ensuring that every child has the tools they need to thrive in their education.
In conclusion, the 2024 HPD Back to School Supply Drive was a resounding success, thanks in large part to the support of the Southwest Management District and other sponsors. The event highlighted the strong community bonds in Gulfton and the importance of coming together to support local students. As the Southwest Management District continues its mission to uplift the community, it remains committed to making a positive difference in the lives of its residents.
