The Southwest Management District thanks volunteers and SMC Landscape Services employees who worked together on Saturday (May 4) to plant 75 young oak and elm trees on the Hillcroft Avenue median between Bellaire Boulevard and Beechnut Street.
The District is funding the installation and upkeep of a total of 1,000 new trees in the area. All are supplied by Trees For Houston, of which 500 are already in place along Harwin Drive.
Stephen Le Jr., chairman of the District board’s Environmental and Urban Design Committee, pointed out that trees improve the visual appeal of neighborhoods, provide shade (lowering temperatures in the process), stabilize soil and much more.
