Kids and adults are likely to smile when they enter the new Miniso retail outlet in the Chinatown portion of the Southwest Management District. The store (9188 Bellaire Blvd., Suite K at the Diho Square shopping center) is stuffed with whimsical toys and a wide variety of other Asian-style novelties made in Japan.

So Southwest Management District board members who officially welcomed the franchise Tuesday (April 23) reflected the playful mood. The in-store shenanigans were followed by a ribbon-cutting outdoors.

“This community loves to eat and shop,” board member Dawn Lin said. “We are dedicated to making Chinatown even more exciting and prosperous.”

Board members delivered remarks to community journalists in English, Chinese and Korean.
