From the early days of my time in office, I have made public safety a priority. While every neighborhood is important and worthy of attention, we all know that the problems along the Bissonnet Track have been especially egregious. Thanks to important partnerships between the District J office and law enforcement agencies, other city and county officials, and community leaders, we have finally started to see improvement in the area through the visible decline of prostitution and other sex-related criminal activity.
As another step toward making the Bissonnet Track safer for residents, businesses and visitors, we are excited to announce the Bissonnet Clean-Up initiative in partnership with the Houston Police Department, the Solid Waste Department and the Southwest Management District. The event will take place Saturday, August 26, at 8 a.m. We are asking for volunteers to join us in an effort to beautify the neighborhood and foster a more welcoming environment for everyone. As part of Mayor Turner’s One Clean Houston and One Safe Houston initiatives, we will be removing illegally dumped trash, debris, and other discarded items that cause blight in the community.
