The Southwest Management District proudly supported this year’s Houston Police Department (HPD) Back to School Supply Drive, held at the HPD storefront in Gulfton. Despite the rainy weather, the event was a huge success, with more than 900 backpacks distributed to students from elementary through high school.
Community members began lining up as early as 6:30 AM, although the event officially started at 9 AM. This impressive turnout, despite the rain, highlighted the community’s commitment to education and ensuring their children were prepared for the upcoming school year.
Commander Rubin of the HPD also shared his thoughts: “I am always overjoyed to see the support of our community businesses and the outpouring of the community to attend each event we host for South Gessner via our Gulfton Storefront. Despite the rain, we were able to still have a wonderful event where we were able to give out hundreds of backpacks to deserving families. It’s days like today that remind you of the reason you took the oath to serve and positively engage the community. Today was heartwarming.”
The participation of various sponsors and vendors was crucial to the event’s success. Their dedication and support ensured that every child left with essential school supplies.
