City of Houston

Today is the final day that the City of Houston will offer water and ice pick-up at its multi-service centers. Ice and Water Distribution Sites (3 p.m. – 7 p.m.)

Food Distribution Locations

FEMA Assistance

President Biden has amended Texas’ Major Disaster Declaration, authorizing additional federal assistance for recovery from Hurricane Beryl. Affected individuals in Brazoria, Chambers, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto, Walker, and Wharton counties can apply for assistance, including funding for home repairs, temporary housing, and low-interest loans.

How to Apply for FEMA Assistance:

  • Online: Register at DisasterAssistance.gov
  • Phone: Call 1-800-621-3362
  • FEMA App: Download and use the FEMA App
  • Relay Services: Provide FEMA the number for your relay service if applicable

Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA)

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is accepting applications for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) for workers and self-employed individuals in Brazoria, Chambers, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto, Walker, and Wharton counties who have been unable to work due to damage sustained from Hurricane Beryl.

How to Apply for DUA Benefits:

  • Online: Apply through Unemployment Benefit Services at TWC Unemployment Services
  • Phone: Call TWC at 800-939-6631 (7 AM – 6 PM, Monday through Friday)

Applications for DUA benefits must be submitted by September 9, 2024. Required documentation must be submitted within 21 days from the day the DUA application is filed.

Cooling Centers

The Houston Health Department recommends people without electricity consider delaying storm-debris cleanup until their power is restored to avoid heat-related illnesses. Once power is restored, people can take frequent breaks in their air-conditioned homes.
