Join us for a free one hour virtual class on preventing catalytic converter thefts.

We have a high volume of Catalytic Converters stolen off vehicles in the Houston area. The thieves are targeting apartment parking lots. In case you’re wondering what a Catalytic converter is, it is an exhaust emission control device that reduces toxic gases and pollutants in exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine into less-toxic pollutants by catalyzing a redox reaction. They are underneath the vehicle and very easy to remove quickly.

HPD is putting on a 1-hour class over stolen Catalytic Converters to convey information to Property Managers and to inform you how you can target harden your properties against this type of theft. Sergeant Tracy Hicks of the Auto Theft Division will be presenting this information. The class will cover the following:

  • #1 vehicle catalytic converter stolen;
  • #2 vehicle catalytic converter stolen;
  • What happens when you buy an aftermarket catalytic converter;
  • The number of catalytic converters stolen last year
  • The number of catalytic converters stolen the first two months of this year;
  • What’s in the catalytic converters that makes them so valuable;
  • The new law for selling catalytic converters;

This class is free and open to all managers and residence. The class will be held virtually through Microsoft Teams on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 10 am to 11 am. If you would like to attend click the join link below on the day of the class.
