Houston’s budget process is set to begin. Here’s how to get involved.
 
The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are authorized for people age 18 and older. The Pfizer vaccine is authorized for people 12 and older.

The Houston Health Department is offering the vaccines at over 20 locations throughout the city. Walk-ins are welcome and appointments are available. For information on the locations, click here.

Free COVID-19 testing is still available at Alief ISD Crump Stadium.

 
Council Pop-Off Comments
At Wednesday’s Council Meeting, Council Member Thomas dedicated her pop-off comments to the Alief Taylor track team, Karya Kares Clinic, homeless encampment tour in District F, and budget week.
 
THE PEOPLE’S CHAMP
At Tuesday’s Public Session, Council Member Thomas presented the Tzu Chi Foundation Southern Region with a proclamation from the City of Houston in recognition of their 30 years of tireless community service and contributions.
 
The District F office sends warm wishes to our Muslim residents in recognition of Eid al-Fitr, which lasts through this evening and marks the end of Ramadan.

HEAVY TRASH PICKUP UPDATE

Due to the high volume of heavy trash, tree waste pickup is still running behind schedule City-wide, including in the District F area (1st Monday-Friday).  Solid Waste heavy trash crews are currently working on 4th Monday junk waste routes.

Junk waste and tree waste are also accepted at the Solid Waste Department’s Neighborhood Depository and Recycling Centers, including the Southwest Neighborhood Depository/Recycling Center located at 10785 Southwest Freeway, 77074. All Neighborhood Depository hours of operations are being extended to 9am–8pm Wednesday-Sunday.

HOUSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY REOPENING
Last week, the Houston Public Library (HPL) announced that eleven neighborhood and regional libraries will open for EXPRESS BROWSING with limited (50%) capacity beginning May 10th, 2021.

  • Customers will be able to go in and use the library for up to one hour at a time to browse the collection, check out materials, and use library computers.
  • No appointments will be needed to come into the library for this service; customers will be allowed in on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Robinson-Westchase Library is currently providing curbside service. It is included in HPL’s plans for opening additional libraries for the EXPRESS BROWSING model. Stay tuned for more updates.

Chelford City Diversion Package #1 (along Westpark Dr)
Please be advised that:

  • the intersection of Westpark Dr and W Houson Center Blvd has reopened
  • construction has begun at the intersection of Westpark Dr and  S Dairy Ashford Rd and driving lanes have been closed down to 1 lane in each direction

Sidewalk Repair at

Please be advised that, funded by our office’s Council District Service Fund, a damaged section of a sidewalk at 10855 Meadowglen Ln will be replaced.

Please be advised that speed cushions, funded by our office’s Council District Service Fund, will be installed in the Bellaire Villa and Oak Harbor subdivisions.

Great News! The corner of Alief Clodine Rd. and W. Houston Center has been cut and mowed. Lawerence Bell with Pct. 3 was able to get the Toll Road Authority to perform the work. The District F office and Pct. 3 are working together to identify the property owner to ensure ongoing maintenance.
 
Dynamic Messaging Sign (DMS) installations are still in progress throughout the city.  Once installations are complete, the DMS will be integrated into a system at Transtar and will begin displaying weather and traffic messages to motorists.

  • Scheduled for 5/13/21
    • Located on Richmond Ave between Dary Ashford and W Houston Center Blvd going eastbound.
    • This DMS foundation installation includes a possible lane closure.
  • Scheduled for 5/14/21
    • Located on Beechnut St west of Dairy Ashford going eastbound.
    • This DMS foundation installation includes a possible lane closure.
  • Scheduled for 5/17/21
    • Located on Richmond Ave between S. Gessner Rd and Fondren Rd going eastbound
    • The DMS foundation and electrical installation will be done during the daytime between 9am-4pm to minimize traffic impact.
  • Scheduled for 5/20/21
    • Located on Beechnut St west of Dairy Ashford going eastbound
    • The DMS foundation and electrical installation will be done during the daytime between 9am-4pm to minimize traffic impact.

Trash Cleanup Event
Saturday, May 22nd at 9:00am 
  • Location: Meet at Conns’ parking lot on the west end of the parking lot, near Jack in the Box and Taco Bell.  Address is 14500 Westheimer Rd, just east of Highway 6.
  • Supplies will be provided.  You can bring your children, assuming that they are mature enough to be responsible and out of harm’s way. There is a lot of traffic in this area, and bright safety vests are available to wear. We need to stay safe
