Volunteers from Sanatan Shiv Shakti Mandir temple in the Southwest Management District, in collaboration with volunteers from Sewa International, distributed fresh produce, rice, beans and pasta to nearly 250 families on Saturday, June 20. Other sponsors included BrighterBites, deep, and Hindus for America, as the groups sought to alleviate food insecurities brought on by the coronavirus epidemic and its related economic shutdowns.
Sewa International also gave away masks to pre-registered schools, medical professionals, and community organizations. Southwest District board member David Peters, Jake Breault from State Rep. Gene Wu’s office, and members of the 2020 Census team also participated. The management district provided HPD off-duty officers and SEAL Security officers to help with traffic control.
Sewa International also provides tutorials to Hispanic immigrants and mentors students of Alief ISD. There is also a coronavirus helpline: 281-909-SEWA. Visit sewausa.org for information.
