The Southwest Management District is proud to have played a role in the success of the 2024 Turkey Drive, an initiative led by the Asian American Peace Officers Association (AAPOA) and supported by organizations across Houston. Together with Vu Law Firm, another essential supporter from the Southwest area, the district’s efforts ensured that 650 Thanksgiving meals were provided to families in need.

Meals were distributed to families identified through local organizations, including Alief ISD, which provided lists of students and families in need. This strategic collaboration ensured that the assistance reached those who needed it most, while also reinforcing relationships between the district, local partners, and the community.

A Unified Effort Across Houston

The Turkey Drive was a large-scale initiative, distributing over 4,000 meals across Harris County. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) provided essential transportation and logistical support, operating semi-trucks from early morning until evening, with motorcycle escorts ensuring smooth traffic flow. Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones and volunteers from her office personally attended the event and provided forklifts and pallet racks that facilitated the packing and loading process.

Chairman Kenneth Li of the Southwest Management District and David Peters, Chair of Business and Economic Development, were also present, actively participating in the packing of dinners alongside other dedicated volunteers.

Critical Power Solutions played a key role by collecting supplies from Walmart locations and providing box trucks for deliveries. Volunteers were energized throughout the day thanks to breakfast provided by McDonald’s Regional Office and lunch from Kim Son and Pho Saigon. This coordinated effort ensured that meals were packed, transported, and distributed efficiently, reaching families in need across the county. The collaboration between these organizations underscored the importance of local partnerships in addressing community needs.
