FROM THE DESK OF COUNCIL MEMBER TIFFANY D. THOMAS

Dear District F,

It is my profound hope that each of you and your families is safe and enjoying this not-so-cool weather. Hopefully, you can enjoy a vacation, a good meal, and quality time away from your digital device or online meeting.

Along with my staff, I will be attending in-person HOA and civic club meetings providing updates on neighborhood-specific projects, general constituent services, and ongoing public safety efforts. In the coming weeks, you will see targeted promotions regarding our upcoming career fair on August 14th in partnership with Westchase Management District, International Trade Center, Alief ISD, City of Houston Human Resources, Worksource Solutions. District F has experienced high numbers in unemployment, and my office has worked tirelessly to help people get back to work. Would you please help us spread the word and share it with a neighbor, your network, and your family? Our career fair is perfect for recent graduates and those with entry-level skills.

As our city continues to re-open and expand activities, I want to encourage you and your family to get tested routinely. I am personally getting tested every two weeks and have encouraged my staff to do the same. The different variants can put us all at risk – help us continue to be together. If you need additional PPE and need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to [email protected].For a list of Houston area COVID vaccination locations CLICK HERE. District F has two convenient testing locations here – details are also below.

In June, we passed the water fee increase to respond to the $2B consent decree and fix our water infrastructure. You may have noticed a series of water conservation tips. As you know, September 1st is the effective date and Houston Public Works will be working with each council office for a shower head replacement program – stay tuned for more information and resources you can use.

Mayor Turner’s 50/50 Park Initiative will announce the next round of parks, including Tanglewilde Park. I am working with the Parks Department to identify a group of Tanglewilde residents interested in participating in the engagement sessions. If you are available and willing, please email me: [email protected].

Lastly, allow me to acknowledge all of the sweet messages from many of you as I celebrated my 4th decade on July 17th. You all sure do know how to make a girl feel special. I plan on celebrating all year long but appreciate each of you that donated school supplies, picked up pet food, or volunteered with Heads Up Houston for the food drive.

Wishing you all of the best,

Tiffany D. Thomas

Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas welcomed US Treasury Deputy Secretary, Adewale “Wally” Adeyemo for a rent relief site visit at BakerRipley.

Secretary Adeyemo was so impressed with our local efforts, he is looking to model our program nationwide. This rent relief program halted evictions for many — it is not a perfect program, but what we were able to create and challenge locally will inform many municipalities.

HARRIS COUNTY JUSTICE COURTS
COVID 19 OPERATING PLAN

The Harris County Justice Courts may begin resuming in-person dockets in accordance with the minimum health standards adopted by the Local Administrative Judge. To view those standards and the most current operating plan for the justice courts, click here.

As part of this plan, dockets may continue to be conducted virtually, or may be scheduled for in-person appearance. If an individual is noticed to appear in-person and has good cause for why he or she cannot or prefers not to appear in person, that individual must contact the court for an alternative arrangement. If an individual is noticed to appear remotely (via Zoom) and has good cause for why he or she cannot or prefers to appear in person, that individual must notify the court for an alternative arrangement.

The Court may allow or require anyone involved in any proceeding to participate remotely, such as by teleconferencing or videoconferencing. Any proceedings conducted in-person will be conducted in compliance with the Emergency Orders issued by the Supreme Court of Texas and Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, with guidance issued by the Office of Court Administration, and with the Modified COVID-19 Operating Plan for the Harris County Judiciary adopted by the Local Administrative Judge. You may view the orders and guidance here. As the court house annexes are open to the public, dockets may not be live streamed. Any dockets that are live streamed, can be viewed here.
