AAPI Heritage Month

Happy AAPI Heritage Month! This month is dedicated to recognize the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. May is significant to the AAPI community for two reasons. On May 7, 1843, the first Japanese immigrant arrived in the United States. More than 20 years later, on May 10, 1869, the first transcontinental railroad was completed, a project more than 20,000 Chinese workers participated in.

Throughout May, you will find biographies of past and present AAPI individuals posted on our social media and resources listed on www.ccchouston.org/aapi-heritage-month. Learn how their contributions to the U.S. continue to shape the landscape of America today. We welcome you to use this resource freely at your home or in your workplace.

Virtual Screening

There is power in stories.

We want to use this opportunity to thank you for being our supporters and our network of community. Whether you have supported us in the past or became a part of our community through our services, we want to invite YOU to join us for a virtual screening of the award winning film, Minari, at the safety and comfort of your home.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
Minari is a sweeping story about what roots us as it follows a Korean-American family that moves to an Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. A semi-autobiographical take on Chung’s upbringing, the plot follows a family of South Korean immigrants who try to make it in the rural United States during the 1980s.
