Cigna Sunday Streets

Gulfton will be the location for the city-wide Cigna Sunday Streets event on Sunday, November 5th, 12-4pm on Bellaire between Hillcroft and Chimney Rock.

The streets will be closed to traffic allowing people to ride their bikes, scooter or walk. There will be numerous booths and activities featuring food, games, and music.

Tree Planting Event

American Forests, a national non-profit organization, and Bank of America awarded the Houston Parks and Recreation Department a $40,000 grant funded by Bank of America to implement the Houston Community ReLeaf Project. This project will plant 600 trees as a part of Mayor Sylvester Turner's Complete Communities initiative.

Of the 600 trees, 200 will be planted in Burnett Bayland Park!

There will be a volunteer planting event and kick-off ceremony on Saturday, November 4th from 10am to 12pm. See you then!

Recycling Returns November 13th


After a two-and-a-half-month suspension due to Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts, the City of Houston's Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) will resume its curbside recycling collection schedule starting Monday, November 13, 2017. The resumption of service is as follows:

"B Week" collection will begin the week of Monday, November 13, 2017.

"A Week" collection will begin the week of Monday, November 20, 2017

According to information received from the Solid Waste Department... Heavy Trash/Tree Waste pickup has been suspended until further notice.

If you have storm-related trash that needs to be picked up, please place it at the curb and contact 3-1-1 for "Storm Debris Pickup."

25th Annual Turkey Trot

Come celebrate the 25th Annual TXU Energy BakerRipley Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning to support BakerRipley! More than 15,000 people will be at the starting line, as the Turkey Trot runs through District J from Sage to Dunvale.
