2019 CCC Lunar New Year - Gallery

Approximately 8,000 Houstonians braved the cold weather on Saturday, February 9th, at attend Chinese Community Center's Lunar New Year Festival.

Elected officials from across the State of Texas delivered resolutions and proclamations to help celebrate the Year of the Pig (or Boar).  United States Congressman Al Green joined Mayor Sylvester Turner with celebratory remarks, including greetings in Mandarin Chinese "Xin Nian Kua Le" or in Cantonese "Gong Hay Fat Choy." Harris County Commissioner Jack Cagle was joined by Harris County's 185th Criminal District Court Judge Jason Luong and former Harris County Civil Court at-law #2 Judge Theresa Chang.  Congressman Al Green even joked that there were almost enough City Council Members present for a quorum -- as Council Members Mike Laster, David Robinson, Mike Knox and Michael Kubosh were in attendance. State Representative Gene Wu presented a certificate to CCC's Chairwoman Charlene Chuang and CEO Chi-mei Lin. 

Board members from Southwest Management District included: Peter Acquaro, Fred Bhandara, John Holmes, Stephen Le, Jr., David Peters and Harry Shani. Chief of Police Art Acevedo was joined by Assistant Chiefs Wendy Baimbridge and Larry Satterwhite and Westside's Commander Michael Faulhaber. The District's Executive Director Alice Lee collaborated with Westside's officers to provide on-site security, which also included the Bike Patrol unit. Representatives from United States Senator John Cornyn's Office and from Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg's Office were also on hand to help feed lucky money red envelopes to the Chinese Lions. Miya Shay of ABC 13 Eyewitness News served as Mistress of Ceremonies for the opening ceremonies.
