Fondren Road Reconstruction Project
Business owners along Fondren Road will see long-term benefits from roadway improvements to alleviate congestion, even as they consider strategies to work around the temporary inconvenience.
The District of 10-square-miles is located in Harris County and is bordered by Hillcroft on the east, Beltway 8 on the west, Westpark Tollway on the north and U.S. 59 / Bissonnet on the south.
The Southwest Management District was created by the Texas Legislature in June 2005 to enhance the physical, social, and economic well being of the Sharpstown community. It is a governmental entity administered by a nine-member, all volunteer board of directors. Projects and services of the district are funded through 6-cents per 100 hundred dollar HCAD evaluations assessment that generates approximately $1 million in annual revenues in 2009.
In February 2007, the board of directors adopted an five-point Service and Action Plan to address Sharpstown's mobility and transportation planning, environmental and urban design elements, health and public safety initiatives, and business and economic development. Since then, the district has taken direct action to fulfill the goals outlined in this plan. The mission of the District is to attract and supplement public and private capital investment, provide professional management of the area's needs and maintain the Southwest District as a premier place to work, live and invest.
